Carbohydrates in the Body are metabolized as follows:-

Initially carbohydrates must be broken down into smaller units called Dextrins. These Dextrins then are further broken down into Glucose and Glucose is then either used for immediate energy requirements or stored in muscle tissue as Glycogen. Any Glucose not used for these purposes is converted into lipids and stored as body fat.
