Studies have proven that nasal cleansings (nasal irrigation) with saline solutions are a valuable and effective treatment for various sinus and nasal diseases.

How does it work?

To carry out the cleansing, empty one sachet of the Nasal Spa Nasal Cleansing Salt into the Nasal Spa bottle, add lukewarm water and mix the solution.

Insert the nozzle into one nostril, open your mouth wide and lift your index finger off the cap. The solution flows into one nostril, rinses round the septum & turbinates and discharges from the other. It moistens your mucous membrane & nasal passages and gently removes any dried mucus, bacteria, crusts, pollen, scabs, etc.

The epithelial cells and mucosa can regenerate and the cilia (tiny whiskers in the nose) can resume their normal function of transporting the mucus to the back of the throat where we unconsciously swallow it.

Regular nasal cleansing helps to prevent bacteria from settling on the mucous membrane, thus reducing the risk of upper respiratory tract infections.

Why is nasal hygiene so important?

The main function of the nose is to warm, clean and moisten inhaled air. The cilia usually transport mucus and contaminants to the back of the throat, where we swallow them unconsciously.

Often, this function is impaired due to:

• air-conditioning on planes or in the office
• central heating
• air-pollution leading to poor air-quality
• stopped smoking
• steroid nasal sprays
• medication

When this happens, the cilia slow down, resulting in excess mucus accumulation in the nasal passages and cavity. This allows air-borne viruses and bacteria to settle on the mucus and often leads to diseases and infections of the upper respiratory tract (coughs & colds, sinusitis, bronchitis).
