What does the sock do?

This easy to use, inexpensive device is designed to keep tension on the tissue (plantar fascia) so it heals in a stretched position at night. In this way many users find a reduction of their morning pain, some have noticed a reduced recovery time and yet others have reduced the need for medications.

The Strassburg Sock

How does the Strassburg Sock work?

When worn as prescribed, it does not allow the plantar fascia to contract while in the prone or supine position. The device holds the ankle and forefoot joints in a position of slight dorsiflexion that prevents a position of plantarflexion, that is the plantar fascia is not allowed to contract.

In addition the involuntary stretching of the plantar fascia over a long period of time helps to strengthen the foot’s arch.

What is the Strassburg Sock?

The device consists of a tubular knit material that fits “over the calf” with 2 attached adjustable straps to maintain the foot in a neutral to slightly stretched position. When worn at night the device will apply a force which results in the reduction and/or elimination of the pain felt during those first steps in the morning.

What are the advantages of the Strassburg Sock?

  • It is very easy to use.
  • It does not lock the ankle joint into any one position thus allowing some movement between the various joints preventing possible joint compression pain.
  • It can be safely worn for several hours without adverse effect when applied properly.
  • It can be worn to bed, provides no significant restrictions and will not interrupt normal sleep if worn as directed.
  • It is an effective device providing low cost relief of heel spur symptoms.
  • It can reduce/eliminate the pain experienced with the first morning steps.
  • It can, over a period of time, strengthen the arch of the foot.
  • It can supplement and not interfere with the various traditional doctor’s treatment.

Product Details

Do you suffer from heel pain

Does it feel like you have a nail in your heel? After walking for a few minutes does the pain slowly disappear? Millions of people each year are faced with this type of pain. While there may be other causes, the most common is Plantar Fasciitis.

What is it? How do I treat it?

Plantar Faciitis is an inflammation of the fibrous tissue, called the plantar fasciia, that runs along the bottom of your foot that connects the heel (calcaneus) to the toes (metatarsals). Treatment for this condition can take many forms including: stretching exercises, drugs, orthotics, injections, and in rare cases surgical procedures.

Until now the treatment methods have addressed the active conscious periods only to be undone when a person goes to bed or sits in the easy chair relaxing.

What causes this?

A flattening or overstretching of your plantar fascia can cause microscopic tears, inflammation, and a burning sensation. While developing slowly, there may be a sudden severe event sometimes occurring in only one foot at a time.

Plantar Faciitis can affect people of all ages and backgrounds. Some contributing factors include age, weight-bearing activities, sudden increase in physical activity, improper shoes, excess weight or a recent weight gain (as little as 5 pounds), and poor biomechanics (flat feet, high arches or unnatural gait).

Strassburg Sock

STEP 1: Remove all packaging, unfold the sock holding it with the D-Ring facing away from you.

Leave all VELCRO-brand fasteners attached and flip the upper strap over the top. Keeping these straps connected will make the sock much easier to handle when applying it to your leg. Pull the sock on and stretch it up completely over the calf with the “D” ring facing the front, at the top of the leg, just below the kneecap. If you have any extra material at the top of the sock DO NOT roll, fold, or bunch it in this area where the calf is larger. Instead slide the extra material down and gather it in the mid to lower calf area where the leg is smaller. Don’t worry about the sock falling down. It won’t.

STEP 2: Secure the upper strap around the calf by means of the attached Velcro brand fastener

This strap should fit snug and secure but not so tight as to cause discomfort or cut off circulation. This strap is not designed to hold the sock up but provides the base for the support which will keep the D-ring properly positioned during sleep.

STEP 3: Take the strap attached to the toe of the sock and pass it through the D Ring

With your foot flat on the floor and your ankle at 90 degrees to the floor, take the strap attached to the toe of the sock and pass it thru the “D” ring’ from the bottom to the top

STEP 4: Pull the toes up approximately 1/2 inch off the floor

Pull the toes up approximately 1/2 inch off the floor. Now attach the VELCRO® brand fastener pieces and the toes should remain in that position. Do not pull the toes upward too tightly as this over-extension will cause discomfort. You should not feel any stretch on the toes in this position.

Please note

The Strassburg Sock® is designed as a supplemental treatment for heel pain from Plantar Fasciitis. Its purpose is to provide an involuntary nightly assistance to your established daily treatment.

Precautions: If you have a known circulatory problem, open sores, are a diabetic or are pregnant, if you have swelling or severe edema, if you have hammer toes, if you have an active rash or severe dermatitis, or any recent trauma to the foot or foot surgery, please consult your physician prior to using this product.
